When it was new, this old trunk was probably a high end piece owned by someone of means. In spite of its age and the minor dings, dents and wear it has accumulated over the years it is still quite attractive.
It will look great on display. Please look closely at the pictures and note any damage.I will try to describe it in detail but encourage interested parties to enlarge the pics and inspect it for yourself. Feel free to ask questions. It still has all four casters on the bottom and they work although they are a bit wobbly. The leather strap handles on both ends are broken. The beautiful and intricate metal covering has acquired a nice dark patina over the years. On the front and sides, near the top, there are areas where the metal covering has peeled back a bit. It has acquired some light corrosion at various points, all of which will easily brush off. On the back side, please note that the left hinge has been reattached. Round head screws were used and they dont perfectly match the original screws on the right hinge.
Both hinges are original though and work properly. There is no key for the lock on the front. The inside still has the original label in the top. There is no lining in the chest and Im not sure whether there ever was a lining. The wood inside is in decent vintage condition with moderate age related cracking.
It remains strong and firm. The chest measures 32 inches long, 17.5 inches wide and 21 inches tall measured to the top of the arch. Someone will really enjoy owning this old piece. At todays rates it will be costly. I will charge you exactly what the shipper charges me.
