Its time I find it a good new home, with someone who can appreciate it for what it is, along with the fabulous artistry of the piece. Would look wonderful In a Taos Pueblo Style Home, or even Native American/Western/Southwest Decor. Its also has an Arts & Craft look... This is NOT a new Chest. This was made by a gifted craftsman/artist and is truly a stunning piece in person and absolutely one-of-a-kind. It can also be used as a coffee table as one can have a piece of glass custom made for the top. Its beautiful and I think a Decorators Dream for the right client. Dates to the Late 1800s (1890s) - Early 1900s (teens-20s), however its possibly an earlier piece. Hand-Cut Nails, very Old Wood. Hand-Forged Iron Straps on the Bottom and Back-Side of Chest. Hand-Done Curved/Ornate Iron Metalwork = has surface rust. Its untouched because I Personally liked the look.
Hand Cut/Hand Forged Circular, Square/Diamond shaped, and Rectangular Shaped Inserts/Medallions = that are made of Bronze = each hand-decorated with stippling designs in the metal = see close-up photos, and use the zoom feature. The smaller round knobs on the design I believe are made of tin or brass = not certain. Handles on each side of Chest = are made of strong iron, and rectangular in shape.Very secure and strong to support lifting of the Chest. Top Side Edges of The Trunks Lid is edged in Hand-cut Iron. Front of Chest has a Handmade Lock that has a very ornate, long, scalloped hatch to close/lock the Chest.
NOTE: Chest did lock/snap shut = but recently wont stay shut. Photos show the inside box of the lock which is handmade, and photos also of the outside area plate of the lock. Chest has its Original Large Hand-Forged Iron Key that is also made in a Circular Shape and used to lock the Chest. It used to work/Lock = however for some reason, I can no longer keep it locked. It sprung something in the lock box, and I dont want to play with it.Im confident it can be fixed. NOTE: The lock and key is fully functional = not just ornamental. Chest measures 17 Tall x 31 1/2 Inches Long x 16 1/2 inches Deep. Its VERY heavy and could easily weigh more. I will also consider local pick-up. However it will have to be signed for upon pick-up, parties identified, etc. And I wont be responsible for it once it leaves my hands.
In Excellent Antique Old Vintage Condition. This was a well made/well-constructed and artistically beautiful piece. Not only Decorative, but functional. Wood Construction is nice and strong/sturdy. No splintered, missing or replaced pieces of wood. The Chest was on a large covered porch on and off over the years, prior to my acquiring it about 25 years ago - thus the areas made of iron have surface rust. It was never exposed directly to the elements.
Its never gotten worse, and I left it as I liked the look. Im confident it can be removed if one wishes. This Very Unique and Beautiful Trunk/Chest is untouched = Its never been cleaned with anything except for a simple wipe with a soft cloth.
