Antique English 18th Century Georgian Oak Joined & Panelled Coffer Chest Blanket Box Trunk (Circa 1720). This is a fine quality antique English early 18th century Georgian oak joined twin panel coffer, circa 1700 - 1720, with small proportions and humble design, in excellent clean original condition. Peg & joined panelled design. Original length reeded feet (stiles).

Superb deep rich oxblood colour. The coffer is constructed with a moulded inset panel top, with a joined section below, which is constructed with butt joints to the corners, secured by peg construction. The lid opens on its original iron loop hinges to reveal a spacious interior, which features an internal oak candle box and lid on the right-hand side.

The interior is clean, dry and practical & usable, retaining its original floor-boards. The coffer also incorporates a working steel clasp, striking plate and restored lock, with working key. The front of the coffer features a humble design, decorated with two inset panels. The sides of the coffer also feature inset panels. The coffer stands on the original stiles (feet).

The back of the coffer retains its original rough-hewn panels along with the original floor. Overall, this coffer boasts a lovely deep, rich oxblood colour and patination and is an ideal interior design piece. This item would look great in a variety of rooms from the hallway, to the living room or bedroom as an ottoman at the foot of the bed. This beautiful piece boasts a rich dark red-and-brown oxblood colour.

As it boasts the original wax polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This antique oak coffer is in clean original condition, considering its age. Nominal old marks to the top and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item.

Such old use marks are inevitable and perfectly acceptable due to its age and use it would have received. The interior is clean, dry, and usable. The coffer retains its original lid, floor, sides and back. The coffer also retains the original iron loop hinges. The coffer also incorporates a working steel clasp and restored lock, with working key.

The coffer stands on extended stiles (feet) and the carvings to the front rail are original. The coffer is solid in joint; it does not wobble on the floor and is ready to use.

Considering the age of this coffer, it is in good condition. It is rare to find a coffer of this period in such clean condition.
