1897 DRUCKER Steamer Travel Trunk. Drucker Trunk Company of Cincinnatti, Ohio. With Original Label and Including Top Tray Very Old Drucker Steam Trunk.The sticker is still on the inside. It reads: BEAUTY AND STRENGTH... The classic flat top trunks like this one is with metal background and hardwood staves. Their basic shape and design is a rectangular box covered sheet metal and then hardwood staves, metal trim and hardware.
Some flat tops of this type were covered in sheet metal between the staves. Most had trays inside but the trays were usually not made nearly as sturdily as the trunks themselves, therefore many found today will be missing the tray. It is, I believe, also called a Stave Trunk. It has horizontal running slats The word "stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880.This simply is a very nice original trunk from a noted maker. Drucker apparently made their own hardware and locks. Drucker went out of their way to distinguish their trunks. What a great trunk for being over 100 years old! Condition: It has definitely been used over the years and shows signs of visual wear. THE LEATHER STRAPS ON THE SIDES ARE BROKEN. SOME WATER SPOTS ON THE BOTTOM. There are some nicks and various water spots but quite minor really. Maker: Drucker: A very nice antique trunk manufactured by Drucker out of Cincinnati. They were known as a quality maker of trunks and their emblem is a lion standing on a trunk with a slogan'Beauty and Strength. These trunks usually have his'D' with a Lion.
And the words Beauty and Strength. The trunk were very popular in the days when they were new. Mendel made many of these in Cincinnati Ohio. They later became Mendel Drucker Trunk Co. Most trunks are of this type had drawers and even hangers.Some fancier ones have fold down desks, ironing boards, briefcases and other accessories. Size: 30 x 38 x 28.
