Wood trunk is wrapped in black canvas with a galvanized panel on the back. There is a flip lock on each end, one still works, the other looks to have been broke open& there's no key. Uses a hollow shaft skeleton key.The lid can be propped open using its two slide hinges. The canvas has pulled away from the wood in a few areas, the bottom& the back where it bends when the lid is opened. There are 5 button snaps along the back of the lid top, & one on each side, likely what ever it was mounted to had a piece of canvas that snapped on to the top to keep the elements from getting in behind it even with the back being covered in a sheet of glavanized metal.
Back in "The Day" this trunk would have been good when making a road trip with your stagecoach& you wanted to keep your rifles dry& dirt free. We really don't know where this was originally made to be used, boat, car, stagecoach or wagon etc so we'd love to get your feedback esp. If you had one, thanks! No makers marks were found on the trunk or locks.50" long, 8"x 11½. Please ask any and all? For more Great Deals from Bar Harbor& Downeast Maine estates.
