This is a beautifully restored dome top trunk with the nice ornamental tin. The Tin has been painted in a brick red, and the embossed tin has been hand rubbed in brass. Nobody I know hand rubs the embossed tin.
It takes a very steady hand. If you want a show piece for your living room, this stands out. I don't do many of them, but they are my best sellers. My feedback on trunks is great. This is a circa 1890's Trunk. Because of the brilliance of the brass highlights, i show pix in shade and sun. This way you get a good idea of the look. The Interior was stripped of the original paper, then wood bleach cleaned twice. Then sanded 60 and 150 grit. The Exterior was stripped with a metal drill brush. Then the entire trunk was wood bleach cleaned. The Slats were sanded, wood oiled, and golden oak stained.
Then the metal was painted in Rustoleum Red and Black. Then the red embossed areas were brass highlighted by hand. Last everything has been satin polyurethaned. Then brass highlights were added to the hardware. Also this trunk has solid leather handles attached. Feel confident to put any blankets or clothes inside.
Like most trunks i restore, this trunk has no key and the latches dont fully lock. After 128 years, think how many times those latches have flipped.
But they look good and unless youre looking for a vault, then its not noticeable. I just like people to know. So in a nutshell, if you like th is ornamental tin look, and want a clean quality trunk, then you will not be disappointed.Any serious questions are welcome.
