Large and very well made old heavy staved chest with thick hand forged iron bands, hinges, and lock hinge. This appears to have originally been painted blue. The current paint is fantastic faux grain like a burl or birdseye maple.
The hand painting is very beautiful. The lid is bordered with contrasting colors of yellow and black with stripes and floral in each.
The center has hand painted initials I really can't make out so you be the judge. The initials and handles are flanked by urns with flora. The interior is cream colored and smells fresh like soap. I think someone had a sachet inside for a long time.
There is one old strip of metal reinforcement on the interior, and a very old split in lid. This chest measures 12 1/2" h x 16"w x 12 and weighs nearly 10 pounds - this is not a light bentwood box but a very sturdy. The item "Large 18-19th C.
