This Item was donated by a descendant of Mr Fremont Chesbrough to a local church for a rummage sale and the proceeds will be going to the church. The Steamer Trunk's original owner is Fremont Bartlett "Free" Chesbrough son of Millionaire Alonzo Chesbrough of Bay City, Michigan who made their fortune in the Michigan Lumber Business. Freemont Chesbrough built a 5 story Victorian Home for his bride, Matilda, in 1888 which took 3yrs to complete.
This house, located at 1515 Center Avenue, Bay City, MI is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. I cannot say if this is the Steamer Trunk that was in question.
It is likely the Chesbroughs had More than One Steamer Trunk. The Leather Carry Handle on the Top of this Trunk is Stamped #2. I have been informed that this # 2 is a manufacturers ID mark.
