This bridal trunk originates from Telemark in Norway and this is the area were the masters of rosemaling as Luraas and Glittenberg came from and it is considered the cradle of Rosemaling. This bridal chest was painted by a painter known as Fille Kjetil, his full name is not known, but it means translated " Rag Kjetil" so he was probably no the sharpest dresser. The Rosemaling on this chest is just breathtaking it is so elaborate and the colors are fantastic. The quality of the Rosemaled floral patterns are so detailed and the quality is just great. The background color is a deep wonderful red that is perfekt for the floral patterns. It is a tall but smaller chest on carved base to keep it of the floor, some damage to these as expected, It measures 41" wide 33" tall and 21 deep. This would be the highlight of any collection of rosemaled farm antiques from Norway, Sweden or Denmark. It is truly an amazing piece and the photos does not do it justice. It has a piece missing on the left side of lid and at one time a new owner, inherited this chest and new names and date were painted over, the original name and dated has been uncovered (see photos).
