The trunk was painted by the famous Rosemalet Jon Thorbjørnson Gjeiskelid who was fron Tinn in Telemark, he painted a lot of items in Numedal were he met his maker walking along the road on his way to a job and fell over on the road and was found there dead, so he is burried in Numedal. He was together With the Luraas Family one of the best painters at his time. The qulity on the rosemaling is great he had a very free style and it showns his artistic quality. The colors are as vibrant today as when it was painted since a varnish was added to protect the rosemaling. It is 100% original and looks stunning in my livingroom.
Would be a great way to display the buyers Norwegian Heritage and would go straigh into any Collection of rosemaled folk art items being either Norwegian, Swedish or Danish items. Lokks great and not a large trunk 39" wide 20" tall and 18.8 so a easy piece to find room for. It is in very good condition, Lock and key is missing. There are no dobt this is a piece painted by Jon Torbørnson Gjeiskelid as his style can no be mistaken, look in the book Norwegian rosemaling by Nils Ellingsgård page 179 you will se a cabinet that has the exact same rosemaling.
