Here is a completely restored 19th century pressed steel oak-paneled Victorian steamer trunk! Beautiful bands of lacquered oak crisscross the piece and lovely nature-themed silver-scroll work transcribes and reinforces the metal whole. This represents the culmination of about 30+ hours worth of work. A passion project to be sure, it has been completely refinished and embossed.
Fixtures have been replaced mostly with original parts and fresh leather straps have been attached to the sides. The interior has been strengthened with fresh wood and castile wheels have been placed on the bottom for easy moving. The interior drawers were not salvageable but we were able to retain a small portion of the original pictogram on the right hand side. There is no key and there are a few minor dings/small indentations that would damage the piece if we tried to hammer them out but otherwise it looks practically new.Not bad for a 150+ year old trunk! This is an absolutely stunning piece and a lot of time and effort has been put into restoring it. It looks like a pirate chest!
We put a lot of love into this baby and personally I'm going to miss it but we recently found an old early 1900s cedar chest we're currently restoring! Gotta keep busy during the pandemic!
