This is a great restored 1890s Monitor Trunk. Also called the waterfall trunk. Obviously because the top slats have been steam bent 90 in a cascading manner. Monitor Trunks are rarer than the average square steamer trunk.Im always amazed that wood could be bent like that. This trunk has been thoroughly restored, and should go in a nice room, and you can confidently store any blankets/clothes inside. This Monitor has nice lines with good hardware. Its really grown on me and maybe it will for you. The Interior was stripped of the original paper, then wood bleach cleaned.
Then sanded and golden oak stained, and then twice Satin Polyuranthaned. The Exterior was drill brush stripped, then wood bleach cleaned. Then sanded and golden oak stained. The slats were wood oiled.
I do this on all steam bent wood. Then everything gets twice satin polyurethaned.
And all the hardware was brass highlighted. This really makes the trunk pop. Plus it has new leather handles on the sides. The bottom has coasters for sliding on your hardwood or carpeted floors. Plus i preserved the original lid picture. The trunk has a nice ornamental lock, but like almost all of these, it does not lock and there is no key. So in a nutshell, if you want a nice decor piece, that can also be used as a coffee table, then this may be for you. All serious questions are welcome.
