Late autumn lays heavy upon the countryside with the threat of frigid winter soon to follow. Bundled in their warmest attire, townsfolk excitedly occupy themselves with preparation for the holiday festivities so as to not overly dwell upon the dampened weather.
One man, however, seems never to mind the crisp nor the crowd. With purpose and measured repose, he strides forward, unfazed by the energy flittering all around him.
His eyes radiate with vigor, his countenance kindly yet tempered with a calm tenacity. Its the look of a man set upon a grand undertaking. In the left hand, he clutches a large pack.
A handsome beige canvas cloaks the exterior with strips of beautiful wood banding. Accents of fine leather and polished brass adorn the frame from every side. For just a short flash, the setting sun pierces through a thin patch in the grey mantle and strikes a sharp glint upon the trunk; its a little plate that bears an inscription. Tom Richards by Mess RS Nixons Office Staff and Friends on his departure for South Africa. The light wanes as the clouds retaliate and thicken over. Gentle white flakes soon begin to waft down from on high, accumulating on Tom and his trunk as he treads ever onward. Taking a moment to brush off the snow clinging to his effects, Richards is struck by the beauty of the surrounding scenery at this exact juncture. A little wistful smile plays on his lips. A distinct look of longing passes over Tom as he stands in the road peering back at where he came from. It lasts for but an instant. The forlorn face is quickly forgone in place of a wide and winsome grin as he snatches up his travel chest and resumes the march forward into the growing darkness of twilight. The decision is made: Mr. Tom Richards and his trusty trunk are destined for adventure, and theyre only just getting started! While much of the exact nature of Tom Richards tales of adventuring is rather mysterious and not entirely known (and as such, the author has taken some creative liberties as to how Toms story might have begun), the real story is far from over. Timothy Oulton, famed craftsman of fine art and furniture, happened upon one day a unique travel chest tucked away in the back of a flea market. It caught his eye with its hand-craftsmanship and simple beauty. As you may have guessed already, this trunk was none other than the very same trunk that belonged to our Tom Richards, now obliviously long since separated from the original owner. Nonetheless, it was still holding together, worn and rough to be certain, but still here all the same. Oulton was so enamored with this new find of his that he decided to take the trunk all the way back to his workshop where he carefully deconstructed it and then used its DNA to launch a whole brand new product range of artisan furniture called Globetrekker which is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of expeditions to new frontiers. This desk is one of those unique pieces that came out of that Globetrekker series. Sporting the classic look inspired directly by the original trunk, this desk is wrapped in water-resistant, hand-waxed, worn Marquee canvas; hand-curved, aged, solid bamboo wooden banding, antiqued brass, vintage-style hardware (luggage latches); 5 canvas-lined pullout drawers; leather handles and corner protectors; and even a name plaque just like the trunk. The dimensions are 64 long by 33 deep by 31 tall. By my estimations, Id say it weighs at least 200 pounds (if not, more). As for the condition, I feel confident in saying excellent but you dont have to take my word for it- just take a peek at the pictures. The only thing that might possibly be worth noting is that there appears to be some slight wear on the surface from a few minor water rings.
The response is simple: the room is needed in the house, and as cool as this desk is, it needs to find a new home. If there are any questions or concerns, dont hesitate one bit to reach out and ask!
