This German or possibly Norwegian immigrant trunk dates from 1789. Also known as a gentleman's trunk due to its dome top (so no other trunks could be placed on top of it) the trunk has all its original hardware. The metal hand painted crest still bears a visible cross and the name Englandorf or Englandorffer (or something close to that). The painted scroll work on the inside of the dome top is really what makes the piece so interesting. The trunk measures 39" wide, 22" deep & 25 high with the top closed.
I always left the top open and filled the trunk with blankets, quilts, etc. But you can store whatever you want in it.
The trunk is very heavy, but has two cast iron side handles. This item is in the category "Antiques\Furniture\Trunks & Chests". The seller is "mc1212.5mo6hk9" and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States.
