All Original Louis Vuitton Steamer Chest from the early 1900s estimated to be late 1920s by a search of the serial number. Original Louis Vuitton serial number sticker inside.
LV monogrammed stencil logo canvas covering all sides. Thought to have possibly belonged to prominent American Paleontologist Leo George Hertlein who was appointed Assistant Curator at the California Academy of the Sciences in San Francisco in 1926. Hertlein traveled extensively throughout the pacific making expeditions to as remote locations as the Galápagos Islands. Louis Vuitton, crossed holding straps are still in place.
Latch closes and opens but no key to lock. Two fasteners either side of the central latch are functional. The trunk is fragile and the lid joining is a little worn so must be opened and closed carefully. Item would be lovely as a decorative piece. Could be cleaned up and lightly restored for not much by an expert.
