Correct me if Im wrong on any part of this listing, however, this item believed to be. 1800s ANTIQUE STEAMER TRUNK VICTORIAN STYLE FLAT TOP W/TRAY. What Really Sets this Victorian Style Trunk apart from the rest is the fact that even its wear and tear over the p ast 100+ years helps tell the steamer silent story along with adding to its unique beauty.
This Antique Trunk is in decent shape considering how old it is. Even though the straps (go up and over the trunk) and the tabs (hold the straps down) are missing , this steamer trunk is pretty sturdy. It is unbelievable any trunk that was carried and/or dragged around everywhere and toss on top one another has survived any era more or less this long. The only other blemishes I really noticed on the exterior other then the missing straps & tabs are the side handles and key for that lock is missing. At least that l all I really notice. Don't hold me to it though. I will add as many pictures as allowed so you can decide the quality of this trunk for yourself. The interior of course shows signs of wear and tear throughout its years in history too. Consider the vast amount of time this trunk has lived through, I would say it is in pretty damn good shape.
The tray is sturdier then one can really make out looking just at the pictures. I would not put any great weight like a bowling ball on it or anything, however, I do not believe you will have any adversity putting lighter items like blankets, pillows in the tray if its going at the foot of your bed or living room like necessities (magazines, remotes, or whatever) if you are one those that will turn it onto a cool coffee table or what not. Then this steamer being thrown on top of other flat tops or vice versa. It has survived throughout the years. I have obtained a good number of old trunks throughout my career.
One I went above and beyond the term fully restored when it was in my possession. A couple I have come across in near perfect condition. Like two twin Toy trunks I discovered that were pretty pristine with mint condition cardboard draws and shelving inside it without me having to touch a single things on them. It is pretty neat to see how they survived the madness of life for that long. Well let me finish my point before I drift off in this passion that captivated me so many years ago.My point of briefly sharing a little history on my trunk discovering throughout the years is so you can see the passion the evolved for them (or any antique / vintage item that has a silent story of their own to tell). Out of all the trunks that have been through my possession or I had an opportunity to learn from by a different owner, none of them, not even one of the trunks that I have had the privilege of crossing my path, had even comes close to how captivating this Antique Victorian Steamer Trunk is. It seems to draw innocent bystanders into its beauty. To end this madness of ole I guess up and expressing my take on history stowaways, I will share why it is on the market when I have clearly been drawn to its original beauty.
Business might be business, however, If I had the room and I didn't have all the overhead bills coming at me in every direction ever month with my companies that feed more then just a couple families, I would quickly strip this trunk from ever reaching the market any further. It seems to catch everyones attention that catches an eye on it. Something about this trunk, maybe the energy from its original days in history. What I do know is that me and pretty much everyone else that has crossed its path seems to believe that it is one beautiful, well taken care of, item that I believe drew people in way before our time.If only it could talk or express what its story has been silently sharing to people all along. Legal small print to protect my footsteps from here on out. With all the passion I have for this item, I still have to throw out there that this is an as-is listing.
It does not bother me whatsoever. It also doesnt hurt my feelings if it never sells. One day, I will regret it, however, one day it will find the next owner to take possession of it. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY it lands in the right hands and safely gets to continue its next chapter here on earth with the utmost care and not into the hands of an idiot that destroy it in matter of seconds.
